CPYB Welcomes Massachusetts Maritime Academy as the Newest CPYB Sponsor

By Chuck Fontaine, Director of Yacht Donations and Sailing Programs

MMA Chuck FontaineMassachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA) is proud to be a supporter of the National Certified Professional Yacht Broker program as a CPYB Bronze Sponsor. We have been a YBAA Affiliate Member since 1994 and with the CPYB sponsorship we further recognize the role that yacht sales professionals play in the donation of high quality vessels and the eventual resale of these yachts. These sales ultimately help to financially support the programs at MMA including educational scholarships and training programs.

I have been involved with transactions with many yacht sales professionals over the years and have benefitted from the knowledge, professionalism and ethical standards that these individuals exhibit. Many of the donated vessels have been chartered or sold through professionals who are members of the CPYB program. Our support of the program will continue to foster our relationships with current yacht sales professionals and with future CPYB members as well. Their understanding of the client's needs matched with ours, has been beneficial to donors, brokers, buyers and the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.  Our financial support is intended to benefit those yacht sales professionals who are dedicated to serving their clients and the recreational marine industry. I find that those brokers who have taken the time to commit themselves to the initial certification process and the continuing education requirements, are those whose dedication proves out in the strong service that they provide and is rewarded by their continued success in the industry.

In the 2016 calendar year, MMA benefitted from the donation of the following sailboats: Farr 63 "KIWI SPIRIT", S&S 56 "WINDBREAKER", and Farr 60 "PROSPECTOR". In addition, the following power driven vessels were donated: FJORD 40 "HANSEL", Eldred Cooper 32 “MARJORIE” and Black Watch 30 "BITTERSWEET". Some of the previously donated vessels that sold or chartered from the fleet were the Hatteras 65 "DEALERSHIP", Winninghoff 53 "MARITA" and three Little Harbor Whisper jet boats ranging from 38 to 46 feet. On the sales side of the ledger MMA chartered or sold "PAQUET” a Luke built McCurdy- Rhodes 55', the FARR 40 "YARE" and PJ 40 "NAUTILUS".

The brokers that we have worked with are too many to list but some of the companies we have had the privilege of dealing with in 2016 alone were: Wellington Yacht Partners, Berthon USA, Brewer Yacht Sales, McMichael Yacht Brokerage, Northrop and Johnson, World Yachts, Chan Moser Yachts and Northstar Yacht Sales. It is easy to see why Massachusetts Maritime is a proud sponsor of the CPYB program.  The companies that we look forward to working with this year give us great hope that those who benefit from our support of the CPYB program will become our partners of the future.
