Setting the Standard for Yacht Sales Professionals
The Yacht Brokers Association of America, Inc. – YBAA - was founded in 1920 and exists to unite Yacht Sales Professionals throughout North America to: establish, promote and enforce high standards of professional competence, character and ethical conduct; foster public recognition of, and support for, YBAA and its member brokers; facilitate cooperation among member brokers; and, enhance each member's success.
YBAA defines a Yacht Sales Professional (YSP) as an individual who conforms to industry standards of skill, competence and character in service to their clients. As a member of a recognized yacht broker trade association and through continuing education and compliance with established Codes of Ethics, a YSP maintains their expertise throughout their professional career. YSPs may represent a buyer and/or seller as a broker in the sale of a recreational yacht or may be the representative of a yacht dealer or yacht manufacturer in the sale of a vessel. Those who attain, and maintain, their credentials as a Certified Professional Yacht Broker (CPYB) further demonstrate their ongoing commitment to their profession.
Selling/Buying Your Vessel
There’s a saying in the industry; "If it was so easy - everyone would be doing it themselves." In truth, it's not so easy to sell a boat or find a boat that is a good match for you on your own. It takes time, commitment, know-how, and the right resources. If you are ready to buy or sell a boat, a Yacht Sales Professional can help turn your dreams into reality.more information

Your YBAA Board of Directors and Executive Committee have been VERY BUSY! As a volunteer board sometimes change is slow and sometimes the industry shouts WE NEED CHANGE NOW! YBAA does a great job of listening to its members and makes real efforts to provide meaningful benefits and productive industry interaction. This fall we heard loud and clear from our membership that an industry change was needed and that a CHOICE was needed with regard to the MLS systems that yacht brokers utilize on a daily basis. Fast forward a few months and YBAA is pleased to announce the arrival of the YBAA MLS.
Owning a large asset, such as a vessel carries certain risks that all owners must navigate. Many boat owners have recognized the value in establishing a Delaware corporate entity to own their vessel, rather than owning it in their name personally. A properly established Delaware corporation or LLC can limit or eliminate your personal liability in the event of an accident or other litigation. Delaware courts have a reputation of reaching reasonable and fair conclusions when construing corporate laws.
Did you know that every state has a Boating Law Administrator, or BLA, that is responsible for helping to develop and shape public policy for recreational boating safety in that state? Collectively, these BLA’s form the National Association of Boating Law Administrators, or NASBLA which you may have heard of. The US Coast Guard is also an integral part of NASBLA and works with the BLA’s to ensure their state’s are following policies and guidelines, using boating grant money appropriately, and know and implement the latest boating safety regulations. NASBLA collectively gets together twice per year.
