Criminal and civil forfeitures for yachts and vessels have become quite lucrative for State and Federal authorities and are on the rise as reported by the US Treasury. Here to stay at least for a while, recreational vessels subject to forfeiture or its taint are growing in popularity for disposition and present both obstacle and opportunity for the yacht brokerage community. We examine the elements of criminal and civil forfeiture of yachts in this seminar.
